UPDATE (June 13, 2019): Richard Tang Shares Renderings For What ‘Girl Diver’ Might Look Like in Madison Yards
Richard Tang has given his planned “Asian seafood house” the name Girl Diver, the restauranteur exclusively shared with What Now Atlanta Saturday.
The restaurant, first announced in 2017 without a name, will be situated in Fuqua’s Madison Yards development.
Girl Diver is one of several nicknames for Japanese artist Hokusai’s woodblock print The Dream of the Fisherman’s Wife.
“Given that the restaurant is an Asian seafood concept, the name Girl Diver serves as an homage to the ama and the haenyeo, the famous Japanese/Korean female pearl divers who dive without equipment,” Tang said.
“We also drew inspiration from the work of Katsushika Hokusai, the famous Japanese artist most well known for The Great Wave off Kanagawa who also is one of the early influences on manga through pieces like The Dream of the Fisherman’s Wife.”
The modern eatery’s menu will be based around the idea of a “seafood boil with Asian flavors.”
There will be a small patio up front.
Inside will be “vibrant woods and metals” and a “sexy bar” will be a focal point of the space.
Renderings are still being drafted but should be completed early next week when permitting begins, according to Tang.
His goal is to open Girl Diver before the end of the year.
Madison Yards is anchored by an AMC Theatre and Publix, at 905 Memorial Drive SE.
Other restaurant tenants in the development include Hoots, Marlow’s Tavern, and Salata.
The picture “The Dream of the Fisherman’s Wife AKA Girl Diver” in this article is offensive. Outside of being the restaurant’s namesake, how is this depiction of bestiality relevant to the article?
Is that an octopus going down on her?!?!?!?!?? WTF??
