On the heels of announcing plans for a Summerhill location, Hodgepodge Coffeeshop owner Krystle Rodriguez is making changes at the original Moreland Avenue shop.

Hodgepodge’s “living room” space will soon be converted into a 486-square-foot “market.”

The market will offer prepared foods bringing in “other local food makers…to sell their goods,” and grab-and-go portions of the shop’s popular items (loaves of our banana bread, pint, and quart size containers of hummus and tuna, cold brew by the gallon, etc.)

The market will also have a larger selection of retail coffee and teas and “the necessities” (toilet paper, laundry detergent, flour, etc.)

“As much as our neighborhood has changed in the last six years, you still have to jump in your car and drive to a major grocery store to get the essentials,” Rodriguez Friday told What Now Atlanta in an email.

“So we’re hoping we can help fill that need.”

A permit application Thursday was filed with the City of Atlanta for the conversion project.

“We would love to be open this spring but it all depends on when we get the permits. Once those are in hand, we should be up and be running in two months.”

Minimal construction is expected but there will be lots of shelving, “taking advantage of our high ceilings and coolers for the prepared foods and drinks.”

Earlier this month, Rodriguez announced plans to build a Hodgepodge from the ground-up in Summerhill in 2019.

More details surrounding the Summerhill location as they unfold.

  • Hi
I’m confused. I live in East Atlanta and would love to know if you have a coffee shop that is currently open. I’m looking for a wheelchair accessible place to meet one of my clients on Friday, March 22. If you could get back with me, I’d appreciate it. Thanks, Carolyn
