Hop City, known for its expansive beer collection, is bringing a new bar to the soon-to-open Upper West Market. The team will open The Boiler Room at 1385 Collier Road.
CEO Kraig Torres told What Now Atlanta that they are drawing inspiration from the building itself, formerly a chicken processing plant. They will be taking over the former boiling room in the building.
“When we walked into the space for the first time, it looked like a scene out of ‘The Shining,’” Torres said. “We thought it would be the perfect space to do something fun — slightly eerie but very elegant.”
The new bar will feature beer, wine, cocktails and THC beverages served in an intimate 30-seat space. Instead of offering their usual expansive beer selection of 60-85 taps, they will be downsizing to 24 beers and increasing their wine offerings. Hop City has been building out its THC beverage vertical, which now accounts for 24% of sales.
The Boiler Room will not serve a food menu. Instead, customers will be able to take their beverages out of The Boiler Room and wander the market, which will feature plenty of local purveyors serving food items.
There will also be an outdoor space at the market where customers can gather.
The space will feature 100-year-old brick walls as well as murals by street artist Catlanta. Lighting will also play an important role in the design.
“My favorite part of the space is that it has tall ceilings, and the lighting is going to be amazing,” Torres said. “We’ve designed the lighting so that during the daytime it is pleasant and fun and you might want to have a glass of chardonnay while picking out Brussel sprouts. In the evening, the lighting will be a lot moodier and fun.”
While the market is slated to open in March, The Boiler Room will still be undergoing renovations and the team is hoping to open in their space in May.
The Boiler Room will join existing Hop City locations in Birmingham, Ala., at Krog Street, at Lee+White and in Fayetteville. They also have two locations of Barleygarden Kitchen & Craft Bar in Alpharetta and Fayetteville.
