A Michelin-recognized restaurant is planning a move. Filipino spot Kamayan ATL will be moving to a larger space near their current restaurant location in Asian Square at 5150 Buford Highway in Doraville.
Co-owner Carlo Gan told What Now Atlanta that the new space will provide an opportunity for them to expand their operations. They plan to add beer and wine at the new spot, and they will eventually roll out some menu expansions.
“We are hoping to expand the menu and bring more dishes that you rarely see here in the United States so that Atlanta has a chance to taste something different,” Gan said.
Gan and co-owner Mia Orino opened the restaurant in 2021 after operating a pop-up around the city for several years. They aim to bring authentic Filipino cuisine to the area.
“Our mission is to create a warm, welcoming space where both Filipinos and non-Filipinos alike can experience the joy of traditional Filipino dishes, fostering a deeper understanding of our culture,” the website states. “Guided by the Filipino value of bayanihan, we strive to build a sense of unity and togetherness, bringing people around the table to celebrate the tastes of the Philippines, while supporting our local community.”
The current menu features items like BBQ skewers, noodle dishes and lumpias — Filipino spring rolls — with various fillings, including pork, shrimp and jalapeño cheese.
The new space will have seating for up to 100 guests, according to reporting by Rough Draft Atlanta.
Gan said they began renovations last week. He hopes they can conclude construction and preparations of the space by the end of the year. Until then, the restaurant will operate in its current location.
