Chef Kevin Gillespie will close Slabtown Public House, his restaurant along the Atlanta BeltLine’s Eastside Trail.
The restaurant’s last day in business will be Saturday, Sept. 24, according to a statement from a Slabtown spokesperson. Atlanta Business Chronicle first reported the news.
“The reality is that many small businesses have closed since 2020 either due directly or indirectly to the economic impacts of COVID-19; we are simply the latest to do so,” says the statement.
Slabtown had opened in April along the BeltLine, occupying a spot at the Edge apartment building. It replaced Gillespie’s former venture in the same space called Cold Beer.
Gillespie is the founder of Red Beard Restaurants, which also operates the restaurants Gunshow and Revival.
“Gunshow and Revival will remain open, as will our Defend Southern Food Foundation,” says the statement. “In time we hope to be able to bring Atlanta new restaurants again, but for now our focus will be on ensuring the long-term success of our team and existing businesses. We appreciate all our guests who have supported us and hope to see you at one of our other restaurants soon.”
The prices were a little steep for what you got. Many people aren’t as willing to spend $16 on a chicken sandwich or $18 for a burrito post pandemic and with rising costs in other areas.
