With multiple locations throughout the Atlanta-area, Papi’s Cuban & Caribbean Grill Founder and CEO Rey Regalado is planning on a different approach for his next expansion.

While the dream of bringing the tastes of Cuba to America remains the same after COVID-19 Regalado is looking to open smaller, more takeout-friendly options for customers.

Opening as sister eatery Papi’s Cuban Cuisine, the growing restaurant chain is heading to Krog Street Market.

“Papi’s Cuban will open late spring of this year inside the food hall,” Krog Street Market posted to Facebook this week. “Get ready for plantain nachos, the infamous Papi’s platter, and of course, the best Cuban sandwich you’ve ever had.”

Regalado thinks the new spot will be perfect.

“It’s an exciting move. Our store has become because of the pandemic much more of a takeout and delivery business,” he said. “We have been doing very well. We do about 40% now that’s takeout and delivery.”

Though Papi’s flagship location in Midtown, at 216 Ponce De Leon Ave., is a full sitdown restaurant, Regalado is looking to take the business in a different direction.

“From now on looking for locations of 2,000 square feet or less and will be looking at more food halls,” he said. “This brings me back to the first restaurant days. The Krog Street Market location will be 400 square feet.”

Regalado hopes to open by the end of April or the beginning of May.
