A Poncey-Highland venue is baking up something new.

Cuties Pie Parlor is going into The Supermarket, a 12,500-square-foot multi-use arts and events space located in the lower level of The Shops at Otto’s. The café is expected to serve pie, along with beverages like coffee and mocktails and variety of other eats.

Willow Goldstein, owner and creative director of The Supermarket and founder of The Bakery Atlanta, hopes that the pie café will bring something different and new to the scene.

“It’s inspired by a lot of things, including my grandma who used to bake pies and worked at a grocery store,” Goldstein said. “It was also about trying to decide what kind of amenity to bring here that wasn’t directly related to culture and events. It had to be something really interesting to me.”

The Supermarket is located at space formerly occupied by Highland Row Antiques, which closed in 2022. Despite being saddened by the closure of the longtime store, Goldstein was excited about the opportunity to revitalize the space, combatting challenges that come from the building being constructed in the late 1800s, like funky infrastructure and a plethora of dust.

Now, The Supermarket hosts regular events, such as open mics, film screenings, creative workshops and more. It includes a 1,200-square-foot main event space, an art gallery and more.

“Eventually I want to always have arts and exhibitions, to be open seven days a week, and to have the café be mostly a public space,” Goldstein said.

Some of her personal favorite pies? She likes the classics, including key lime, cherry and pumpkin. She also envisions having some less common varieties on the menu, such as persimmon pie. Savory takes on pie, like pizza or quiche, could be included as well.

Cuties Pie Parlor will hopefully be open by this fall, but Goldstein said sometime during the summer would be ideal. For now, she’s excited about all that’s to come, looking forward to what the pie café can add to the space (besides just the enticing scent of pie).

“Sometimes you come to a gallery and it’s a cold set-alone space that’s not inviting,” she said. “That’s not what I’m interested in. I want it to be a space where you can come see art, comedy, find community, then you can sit in the café and enjoy being in the space longer.”

Cuties Pie Parlor will add to the existing and upcoming offerings in the vicinity, which includes a new location of the ice cream shop Big Softie and an upcoming wine bar and restaurant called Madeira Park.

“The idea is that you can really get an entire going-out experience within one space,” Goldstein said.
