Major Changes Ahead At Irwin Street Market

Longtime neighborhood incubator to welcome new tenants, including a beer garden, and be home to ATL’s first “container village.”

Earlier this summer, What Now Atlanta reported that O4W Pizza in Irwin Street Market was shuttering. The much-loved pizzeria recently re-opened outside the perimeter in Duluth.

Now, Jake Rothschild, owner of Irwin Street Market, told Creative Loafing (CL) that not one, but three soon-to-be-announced tenants are replacing the eatery inside the food hall. Rothschild told CL that the businesses will be “unlike anything else in Atlanta.”

Also underway at the location is a new beer garden and barbecue concept called Lingering Shade, from Atlanta-based CPA Lewis Jeffries. The concept is reportedly inspired by neighborhood visionaries such as Kwanza Hall and John Morrison and will overlook the Beltline’s Irwin Street access point.

Additionally, Rothschild is in the process of bringing in 15 repurposed shipping containers to the property, which will house more retail and restaurant space, creating “Atlanta’s first and only container village.”

The spaces will be designed in a way that prioritizes keeping price points low.

Several favorite Atlanta eateries have gotten off the ground at the location including Bell Street Burritos, King of Pops and Little Tart Bake Shop. Though many Atlantans have had much to say about Rothschild and Irwin Street Market, the owner stands by his practices:

“I’ve had people say all kinds of mean and crazy things about what this place is, that it’s the black hole of business,” Rothschild told CL. “But the truth of the matter is businesses come here, do really, really well, and then graduate.”
