Iconic Poncey-Highland watering hole nears reopening.

Iconic Poncey-Highland watering hole Manuel’s Tavern is nearing its re-opening date, and loyal customers have been begging the establishment for details via social media.

Owner Brian Maloof has been responding appropriately.

Last week, Maloof posted an update on the establishment’s Facebook page detailing the planned process for the much-anticipated reopening:

Don’t make the mistake of judging the process by what you see at the corner of North Avenue and North Highland. That is the retail space. Very little construction is being done in that space at this time. The construction effort is being focused on the tavern..
As it stands right now July 25th we should start moving furniture and finishings into the building. Some employees are coming back on that day. I’m hoping to have everything back in and on the walls by July 28th.
A series of soft openings will take place. 4 hour windows of being open. I think I would do everyone a disservice if I just swung the doors open and find out the hard way we were not prepared. Everyone that works here wants to impress, no one wants to disappoint a customer . I want to give every employee the time they need to get back in the swing of things. There’s a lot of new equipment to get used to. We’re going to need to ease back into it. We are 6 months out of practice.

In a previous announcement, Maloof named August 6th as a “drop-dead date to be open.”

Renovation plans for the establishment were first announced in February 2015. Green Street Properties, the new owner, along with Selig Enterprises (a more recent investor) is in the process of building up a new mixed-use development at the property.

Manuel’s Tavern, along with the developers have emphasized that the teams have every intention of preserving the character that the establishment is known for.

The new space will be about 2,000 square feet smaller on the interior and feature new patio space.
