Richard Cherskov, founder of the now-shuttered Jungle dance club along with nightlife event promoter Keith Young, Monday closed on the purchase of Midtown Tavern, according to a thoughtful report by Project Q Atlanta.

Cherskov and Young secured a long-term lease with the purchase of the 5,500-square-foot restaurant, at 554 Piedmont Avenue NE.

“In the coming weeks, the gay nightlife veterans plan to expand on the venue’s food and entertainment offerings to add drag shows and Sunday brunch,” according to Project Q.

The restaurant will undergo some remodeling—think paint and minor renovations—but “we are not changing the name,” Cherskov Tuesday told What Now Atlanta in an email.

“It will remain Midtown Tavern.”

  • That will be interesting. I haven’t been to Midtown Tavern in years, but it was a lifeline when I first moved to Atlanta. I used to go to karaoke there a few times a month and it really helped me feel better about my new home city. Plus the burger was fantastic…always a good sign!
