A new concept is now serving bites and beverages at Ponce City Market.

The Upper Room is now open Wednesday through Sunday inside Citizen Supply on the second floor of the Central Food Hall, serving specialty bites, coffee, tea, cocktails, wine and more, with a focus on spirits from Black-owned brands.

The food menu includes salads, sandwiches, and savory light bites like parmesan popcorn and jerk plantain patties.

The concept comes from Kelsey Maynor and Shakirah DeMesier. Maynor has more than 15 years of experience developing hospitality concepts to uplift local businesses, and DeMesier is a Haitian-American storyteller with experience as a marketing strategist, writer, director and actor.

“We aimed to create a space where people can work, connect and relax,” the co-founders said in a statement. “Our commitment to community and group economics drives us to partner with Black-owned spirit brands and food vendors, bringing unique flavors to our guests. This collaboration helps introduce these beloved brands to new audiences.”

The Upper Room hosts interactive events like coffee cuppings, tea parties, wine tastings, and cocktail-making classes. Each cocktail class spotlights a featured liquor brand, where guests can learn the history and craft behind the brand and create signature cocktails with guidance from experienced bartenders. The cocktail classes take place every Friday and can be reserved online.
