A local chef is cooking up a new restaurant in the Old Fourth Ward neighborhood.

Communidad is planned for the former Highland Bakery space. The menu is expected to include breakfast tacos and burritos. There will also be a bar and market, Atlanta Business Chronicle reports.

The concept comes from Chef Nick Melvin, the owner of Poco Loco, a pop-up known for its breakfast burritos that went permanent in Kirkwood in 2021. In addition to Poco Loco and experience in various other restaurants, Melvin also started a pickled vegetable company called Doux South Pickles.

The flagship location of Highland Bakery closed in January 2024 after 20 years in business.

But sweet treats aren’t gone from the space for good; Communidad recently announced they will be working with local bakery business At Heart Panaderia on concha, cake slices and pastries for the eatery.
