Morningside Kitchen last week officially reopened as Nowak’s.
A new sign adorning the Nowak’s name went up at the Morningside-Lenox Park space, May 2.
Blaiss Nowak, the son of the owner of Hal’s, in January, acquired Morningside Kitchen from Tom Murphy with plans to open a new concept there.
But the new restaurant isn’t named after Blaiss directly.
“Nowak’s” was a menswear company in New Orleans owned by the restauranteur’s grandparents in the 1960s to the 1980s, according to a post on the restaurant’s Facebook page earlier this year.
Even the logo is the same.
The new restaurant touts itself as a “casual neighborhood bar and restaurant” serving steaks and seafood.
Take a look at the menu:
This is quite overpriced to be a “casual neighborhood restaurant and bar”. None of the entrees come with any sides or hardly anything green? People in Va Hi are very health-conscious. The owner may want to revisit those ideas. UGH!
Agree with Kate. This is very over-priced for the neighborhood. If we want Hal’s, we will drive to Buckhead. This concept will not work in Morningside. Bring back Morningside Kitchen! I had a crabcake, mashed potatoes and a glass of wine. It cost $55.00. UGH!
Kids menu, kids menu.
Agree with everything said above. Overpriced and not worth your time.
Also, I realize it’s the guy’s last name, but Nowak’s is not an appealing name for a restaurant.
Wow. Food looks really good! The place/menu does not look so expensive to me. Crab cakes are $16… not $54 as other commenter mentioned???
Ate there the other night. The food was delicious and very well priced for what I ordered. Our table had cocktails as well and they were well made and certainly did not skimp on liquor amount. Virginia Highlands/Morningside was in need of a more upscale restaurant. Negative comments are just mean spirited……
We went before they changed the name and it appeared that they gave us a salad out of a bag and the kids menu was $12 for buttered noodles, lemonade was an additional $3. The food was not good and very overpriced. We really enjoyed Morningside Kitchen as it was somewhere we could go grab a good meal AND bring our kids if we wanted to. Nowaks is not a good fit for the area.
