Piola, a newly established ‘Italian’ restaurant located at 12th and Midtown, is in the process of adding outdoor seating.
Plans for the patio call for 65 seats to span from the entrance of neighboring restaurant, Ra Sushi, all the way to the curb of Peachtree Street.
Ra Sushi has roughly 55 to 60 seats outdoors but they have a gated patio area on a much wider part of the sidewalk. It’s hard to imagine that Piola can pull this off considering the lack of space and the required amount of sidewalk that must be left untouched.
A building permit applied for in late May allows Piola owners to move forward on the outdoor addition. However, sources within the restaurant indicate that Piola is having some issues securing a liquor license for serving outdoors.
Piola has been given the go ahead for serving food and 65 seats or not, any seating outdoors will be a nice touch for the area. Hopefully they’ll get their act together on the food while waiting for approval to serve liquor outdoors.
