Watering hole to sit atop ‘historic rail trestle.’
Jamestown Properties, the real estate firm redeveloping City Hall East (formerly Sears, Roebuck & Co.) into Ponce City Market (PCM), is moving forward with plans to integrate the property’s rail tracks into the project.
A building permit application was submitted to City of Atlanta Tuesday to buildout a “boxcar and deck area” to serve as a watering hole and seating area with access to the beltline.
The boxcar used will reportedly be repurposed and transformed into a bar situated atop the “historic rail trestle in the building” from back when trains used to unload merchandise at the warehouse. Construction workers discovered the tracks under concrete during the redevelopment.
An estimated $690,000 will be spent building out the future boxcar bar and seating, according to the application.
It’s unclear which entity, either PCM or a third party, will operated said bar.
