A Westside restaurant space is swapping wings for burgers.

Mission Burger Co. is planned for 2065 Defoors Ferry Road NW. Sean McPherson and Steve Josovitz of The Shumacher Group brokered the deal on the space formerly occupied by Urban Wings.

This will be the first Georgia location for the concept from Austin, Texas. The menu is 100 percent plant-based, but rest assured: it’s carnivore-approved.

“It’s really good food that happens to be made from plants,” said co-owner Isaac Mogannam, who has been vegan for 14 years. “We really focus on plant-based comfort food.”

Each carefully curated item is tested by his meat-loving friends to ensure it’s not just good vegan food; it’s good food, period.

The team behind Mission Burger Co. have been selling plant-based food in Austin for 10 years under multiple brands, with Mission Burger Co. being their most successful.

The menu includes several plant-based burgers, like the popular Steakhouse Bleu Burger, which features vegan blue cheese from Peaceful Rebel in Colorado and bacon from Thrilling Foods, as well as chicken sandwiches, fries and mac and cheese.

Despite burgers being their namesake, two items with cult-like followings aren’t burgers at all: the Crunchwrap (with carne asada, queso, pico de gallo and sour cream) and their rendition of a reuben sandwich, which features seitan from The BE Hive in Nashville that they corn and cure just like regular pastrami.

“Most people who try it say, ‘This is the best vegan reuben I’ve ever had,'” Mogannam said.

Mission Burger Co. will hopefully be open in Q1 of 2025. No major construction is needed on the space, which is expected to get a cosmetic refresh.
