Coffee pop-up Recuerdos is planning to open its first residency alongside Bar ANA, which is slated to open soon at 939 Ponce De Leon Ave., according to an announcement earlier this summer on the Recuerdos Instagram page.

Owned by Ivan Solis, Recuerdos highlights Mexican coffees and pays homage to immigrant stories. The menu features traditional espresso beverages as well as specialty drinks such as Café de Olla (a cappuccino with spiced orange syrup) and Matchayote (a matcha agua fresca with chayote, epazote and lime).

Recuerdos serves as “a love letter to our immigrant families” and “a moment to help us remember where we came from and why we are here.” Solis draws inspiration from his own experiences as the son of immigrant parents from Mexico growing up in the South. The name “Recuerdos” — or “memories” — is a nod to his own memories from childhood and to the memories and dreams of immigrants.

Recuerdos has been popping up at events and farmers markets for the past few years. This partnership with Bar ANA will allow them to settle into a brick-and-mortar space, serving coffee during the day while Bar ANA takes over with desserts and cocktails in the evening.

As of now, the space that will house Bar ANA and Recuerdos is still being prepared for opening. No exact opening date has been released yet. However, the Recuerdos team is popping up at El Ponce Patio in the meantime as they await the conclusion of renovations and preparation of the space.

“We’re just getting started,” the team announced in a recent Instagram post. “With the brick-and-mortar space on the horizon, we’re looking forward to more shared memories (Recuerdos) with you! Thank you for being the best part of our story. The best is yet to come!”
