A triangular plot of land at 2125 Piedmont Road could soon house a 2,300-square-foot restaurant called Red Light District.
Dr. Cesar Angeletti is working with DCA Architects to fashion the restaurant, set to be built from the ground-up, after the architecture of downtown Buenos Aires.
Angeletti for several years has been exploring options for the oddly-shaped site adjacent the portion of I-85 that collapsed last year.
“I think [Red Light District] is something Atlanta could really embrace,” Angeletti Tuesday told What Now Atlanta in a telephone interview.
“We’ve submitted plans to the City for our vision, but those plans are preliminary and could change at any moment.”
An estimated $350,000 would be spent constructing the two-story building with a basement, according to a permit application for the project.
Situated in the Lindridge-Martin Manor neighborhood of Atlanta, Red Light District (referred to as “RLD” on permit documents) gets its name for the once burgeoning adult entertainment scene nearby, according to Angeletti.
But the name could change too, he said.
Centered around a woodfire grill, Red Light District would offer Argentinian fare, a “blend of Spanish and Italian food with a heavy focus on meat, especially beef.”
Angeletti was inspired by Buenos Aires Restaurant in New York City, he said.
Red Light District could open in early 2019 but Angeletti is “taking my time with it.”
In late-2016 Angeletti submitted an application to the Board of Zoning Adjustment within Neighborhood Planning Unit: 7 requesting to reduce the required parking from 28 spaces to 18 to allow for a larger restaurant footprint.
A hearing was held in March 2017 and the request was granted.
I believe that location is in the “Piedmont Heights” neighborhood as opposed to ‘Lindridge-Martin Manor”.
