The chef and restaurateur behind Avondale Estates breakfast spot Rising Son is working on a new venture on the east side of Atlanta.
Pure Quill Superette will take over the space of butcher shop Chop Shop in Edgewood on Memorial Drive, Rough Draft Atlanta reports. The concept will be like a supermarket, selling meat, produce, cheese and sweet treats like soda and candy. Beer and wine will also be available to purchase.
Coffee, juice and breakfast items will be available in the a.m., with offerings like sandwiches and soups available for lunch, showcasing the provisions that customers can purchase in the shop.
Pitmaster Bryan Furman will serve barbecue plates and sandwiches on the patio next door on weekends, with weekend barbecue pop-ups (featuring sides from Rising Son) happening at the property now.
Pure Quill Superette owner Hudson Rouse describes the concept as “the best of a bodega, the best of an Italian deli, and the best of a country store that also sells barbecue,” according to the news outlet.
Rouse opened Rising Son in 2016. Rouse also co-owns Whoopsie’s on Moreland Avenue.
Wes and Charlotte Swancy, owners of Riverview Farms, and Pine Street Market owner Rusty Bowers opened Chop Shop in 2019. Pure Quill Superette will sell products from both Riverview Farms and Pine Street Market.
With the building being more than 100 years old, preservation is key, so major changes will be minimal. Seating will be added for about 38, and a meat cooler will be removed to make room for a breakfast bar, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Pure Quill Superette is expected to open next month, but the plans don’t stop there. In the coming months, Rouse plans to transform the space next to the market into a bar with outdoor seating and possibly brunch, Rough Draft Atlanta reports.
