Prestigious visual arts school is ready for more visually appealing dorms.
If you have ever been underwhelmed when finding out that the motel structure at 1470 Spring is not a motel, but a student dormitory complex, you may delight in hearing that the property is slated for an extreme makeover.
The Savannah College of Art and Design has filed plans with City of Atlanta to demolish the school’s Spring House student residences. The cost listed on the Commercial Quality Control Review permit is $283,887.
Plans for the property include the demolition of the existing 4-story former motel to make way for a new 6-story, 500 bed dormitory with 6,000 SF of retail, surface parking, and site amenities.
In November, the Midtown Development Review Committee suggested that SCAD up the north corner of the Spring Street façade with added storefront glass to increase visibility and create a focal point for pedestrians and motorists traveling south on Spring Street. Yes. I went here, the spring house dorm is horrible!!!!! to be in the beautiful Midtown area, and have to come back to a crapy dorm is pretty sad. the school is really nice and very expensive for their students to be living in those conditions.
Time? HOW ABOUT OVER-TIME? How dare they even allow students to take residence at Spring House in its deplorable condition.
Shame on SCAD.
