A franchise of Juici Patties, the self-proclaimed “Serious Jamaican Food for Serious Jamaican Food Lovers!”, is coming to Atlanta at 860 Donald Lee Hollowell Pkwy, Atlanta, GA 30318. The location is in a former Church’s Chicken building in the Knight Park/Howell Station neighborhood.
Co-Franchisees Murine and Kevin op de Ehze are behind the forthcoming Juici Patties, which Murine op de Ehze told Whatnow Atlanta she’d love to open tomorrow “if I could wave a magic wand.” The reality is that the standalone eatery — which was selected for its ease of access — will likely debut in September or October 2025 because of permitting.
“Patties are meant to be quick, so we needed a space where you can pop-in, get your patties, and get going,” op de Ehze, who’s been waiting for the opportunity to bring Juici Patties to Atlanta, said. “I’m Jamaican so I grew up with it. I’ve been harassing [Juici Patties] about whether or not they were coming to the states. It’s my favorite childhood fast-food chain.”
What is a patty? Those unacquainted with Jamaican cuisine might be picturing a hamburger patty, but the traditional Jamaican dish is far closer to a pastry. Juici Patties website defines it as “a flaky, golden, handmade pastry filled with traditionally seasoned & savory Jamaican beef or chicken,” though they also offer ackee and vegetable patties. The chosen stuffing is wrapped in buttery coco bread and baked,
Their website also asserts that Juici Patties is committed to sharing this traditional dish outside Jamaica. If their US menu will look anything like the traditional Jamaican offering, Juici Patties will offer the different types of patties with sides like plantains and French fries and Tropical drinks to complete the meal. Besides patties, Juici Patties also serves Jamaican classics like ackee and saltfish and callaloo, and is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
The first Juici Patties store opened in May Pen, Clarendon, Jamaica in May 1980, the result of a lifelong passion for founder Jukie Chin. At age 16, he began making his signature patties in his mother’s kitchen, eventually selling them in his parents’ grocery store.
Now there are more than 60 Juici Patties locations on the island of Jamaica, earning it the title of Jamaica’s largest franchise. US franchise locations thus far include locations in California, Florida, and New York, making the move to Atlanta an exciting step in Juici Patties’ expansion.
