Smoothie shop at 10th & Piedmont to return June 15.
Smoothie King Franchises, Inc. is reopening its Midtown location, at the intersection of 10th Street and Piedmont Avenue.
Crews were spotted Wednesday evening securing the “Smoothie King” sign back onto the space’s storefront.
The smoothie and health food retailer closed its Midtown store in June, 2010, when its ten-year lease was up for renewal. Unable to agree on rent, Smoothie King was forced to shutter, according to sources close to the project.
In the three years that Smoothie King’s Midtown location has been closed, two concepts have come and gone: Repicci’s Real Italian Ice and Groovy Smoothie (shuttered in April).
On a trip to the space Thursday, a contractor told What Now Atlanta, Smoothie King waited for the right time (after two failed concepts in the space) to renegotiate a lease.
Smoothie King is planning to reopen June 15, according to the contractor.
The Covington, La.-based company, currently operates more than 600 units nationwide.

Good for them. Probably a greedy landlord was trying to gouge them. They wouldn’t give in. Enter & exit 2 failed businesses and now they’re back, probably at a lower rent than their initial lease!
