The coffee shop giant is replacing Saigon Basil.

Starbucks is moving forward with plans to open a coffee shop in Piedmont Heights.

The company late last week filed a permit application with City of Atlanta to remodel the now-shuttered Saigon Basil restaurant space, at 1870 Piedmont Avenue, into the new coffee shop.

Saigon Basil closed late-2016.

An estimated $450,000 could be spent building-out the 1,100-square-foot Starbucks, according to the permit filing.

Plans for the proposed coffee shop first emerged in September 2016 when the company sought approval before the Atlanta Beltline Review Committee.

No word on when the new coffee shop will open its doors.

  • Caleb, wasn’t this very same building once before a Starbucks? Like maybe back in the early 2000’s ?

    • It was a couple of bagel places – Einsteins and something else before that in the late 1990s – Manhattan Bagel maybe? I used to drive through there on my way to work.
