World’s biggest restaurant chain bringing another location intown.
Prayers are being answered for students at the Georgia Institute of Technology wanting to “eat fresh” on a budget.
Subway, the restaurant chain that took the lead for most locations in the world surpassing McDonald’s, is opening its newest sandwich shop in Midtown. Subway currently has 35,921 locations in 94 countries, according to its website.
The restaurant’s franchisee filed a permit with City of Atlanta early last week to open the sandwich shop on the Georgia Institute of Technology campus.
Subway will open at the Centergy building, at 75 Fifth Street, according to the permit. The sandwich shop’s build-out will cost an estimated $62,000, the permit notes.
Subway has at least eight intown locations within a one mile radius, according to its website. McDonald’s only has four.
No word on when the 1,000-square-foot sandwich shop will open.
That place is going to be slammed! Is it going in the space where the old Cold Stone Creamery was? I figure the new Yogli Mogli around the corner has the frozen dessert market taken care of now…
Noting the tweets on this story, I understand the frustration, but it makes good business sense. Other than taco bell and subway on campus there are no inexpensive restaurants nearby. Unfortunately, the rents are probably too high for most local restaurants to compete with the prices of national chains (waffle house, subway, moe’s). McDonald’s would make a killing there.
The first Tin Drum opened there and 5th St Ribs and Blues is local and still going
I’ve seen people stand 20+ deep for a freakin’ Subway sandwich at the GT student center so I agree about this location being a good choice.
