Atlanta restauranteur Tal Baum alongside partners Brandon Hughes and Josh Riddle are opening a new seaside-inspired eatery at Buckhead Village. The coastal cuisine concept, Carmel, will launch next year across the street from NARS at Bolling Way Northeast, Baum’s restaurant group Oliva Restaurant Group has announced.

The idea behind Carmel is to give diners an experience that encapsulates a general coastal atmosphere, rather than focusing on food from a single locality, according to Baum.

“Our take on coastal cuisine is less about a specific suite of recipes or from a particular region,” she said in a statement. “It’s a general philosophy and approach toward food characterized by fresh, bright flavors that allow the simplicity of the ingredients to shine through.”

Carmel’s interior will evoke a “light and airy living room and patio,” according to Oliva, with details inspired by the coastal cultures of California and the Mediterranean. The space will be designed by Smith Hanes Studio, which was behind the design of Baum’s Italian restaurant Bellina Alimentari in Ponce City Market, Rina in Old Fourth Ward and Aziza in Westside Provisions District.

In addition to Bellina Alimentari, Rina and Aziza, Oliva’s portfolio also includes Falafel Nation in West Provisions District and the forthcoming Atrium in Ponce City Market.
