UPDATE (October 30, 2017): Grain Spirits and Food Calls It Quits In Midtown

Grain, a new watering hole and eatery, is slated to open next week at the base of MidCity Lofts in the heart of Midtown, according to a press release Thursday.

The restaurant, a collaboration between restaurateur Bill Streck, barman Kevin Bragg, “culinary craftsman” Drew Van Leuvan, restaurateur Rob Caswick, and designer Thom Williams, will replace the now-shuttered MidCity Cafe, at 670 W. Peachtree Street.

“The inspiration behind Grain comes from doing a lot with a little. Taking a seed and turning into something greater,” Streck, who also co-owns Cypress Street Pint and Plate, located just around the corner from the new locale, said in the release.

“I’ve always appreciated intimate gathering spots that have a tucked away feel and great vibe. With GRAIN we hope to create that same feel, focusing on design that invokes conversation and comfort, while offering delicious food options, and a strong beer and spirits program.”

Grain’s patio offers a custom-built, communal table made of repurposed wood from a mill built in the 1800s. Inside, the space is made up of concrete, metal and wood with floor to ceiling windows and a bar stretching the span of the restaurant.

The craft beer menu will rotate Wild Heaven Craft Beers, Sweetwater Brewing Company and Three Taverns Brewery along with selections from Rodenbach Brewery, Avery Brewing Company, Mother Earth Brewing and more.

The wine selection will include a range of varietals and blends and the cocktail program includes libations on draft.

The menu under the direction of chef Drew Van Leuvan is comprised of small plates, everything from raw oysters and his house-smoked charcuterie to edible cocktails; nitro salted caramel popcorn; lobster mac & cheese; Potato Zeppole – crème fraiche, country ham, green onions, and Mexican queso; and stone crab toast with kimchi apple, avocado, Mexican crema, and brioche.

Grain will be open from 3 p.m. to 3 a.m. Monday through Saturday and 3 p.m. to midnight on Sunday. Oyster Happy Hour featuring $1 oysters will be every Monday through Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
