Tex’s Tacos food truck to serve in front of Buckhead brick and mortar ‘commissary kitchen’

Metro Atlanta’s getting a Tex-Mex food truck. Well, kind of.

Tex’s Tacos food truck will be parked out front of the shuttered Just Loaf’n Buckhead beginning April 15, according to Harrison Jones, co-owner of the Tex-Mex restaurant on wheels (cinder blocks eventually?).

And though it won’t be parked at 3173 Roswell Road permanently, Jones told What Now Atlanta Friday the Just Loaf’n building will be used as both a “commissary” and a place for customers to sit and eat.

Dubbed “Nueva Texicana” food, Tex’s Tacos’ take on authentic Mexican and Tex-Mex style food, will just require a little imagination and wishful thinking that in Atlanta, creating an authentic food truck operation is possible.

When ordering tacos, quesadillas, fries, loaded fries, lime-dusted chips and homemade salsas from the truck’s window, just ignore the food being walked from the kitchen behind.

“In order to get permitted as a mobile food unit in Atlanta, you need a brick and mortar commissary kitchen,” Jones said. “The city has been very punctual with their response to our permitting requests.”

So, why even have the food truck?

“Running an entire restaurant adds a whole other element and is not something we want to take on,” Jones said. “It’s easier to manage a food truck right now.”
