Family-run Chinese restaurant Wok Chi is planning a second location. It will open in a 1,675-square-foot space at 460 North Avenue NE, according to a recently filed permit.

Owner Chi Kong told What Now Atlanta that they feel there is a gap in the market on the east side of Atlanta for the fresh Chinese food they serve.

“I feel like the area is lacking really good, authentic Chinese food,” Kong said. “I feel like I can spread the culture through food on the east side as well. We’re doing really well on the west side, so we’re trying to expand and reach out to more people.”

Wok Chi opened in 2021, bringing items like dumplings, spring rolls, chicken wings, seafood and lo mein to the community. The menu also features Thai dishes like pad Thai and Thai curry, as well as Japanese noodles.

Customers can expect a more streamlined menu at the new location, with an emphasis on the most popular items, like their chicken wings and lo mein, from the original Wok Chi location.

Kong’s father, who has been cooking commercially for more than three decades, is the head chef at the original Wok Chi location, and Kong hopes that customers at the new location will be able to feel their passion for the cuisine through their food.

“We want to bring freshness to the area,” Kong said. “You see fast food all over. I feel like people are being more health-conscious these days, so it will be nice to have somewhere that cooks fresh food.”

They expect to open the new location in the next three to six months. Moving forward, they do not plan to expand extensively, as Kong said they want to maintain their mom-and-pop, community-focused feel.
