UPDATE (Sept. 20, 2018): Zaxby’s West Midtown Center Now Open
West Midtown is getting a Zaxby’s.
Dream Big Foods—a five-partner Zaxby’s franchisee since 2004—has leased land to build a freestanding location of the fried chicken joint in the 1299 Northside Drive development.
Zaxby’s will join Chipotle in the Kroger-anchored, Fuqua-developed mixed-use project near IKEA and Atlantic Station. There’s also a self-storage facility planned for the development.
“It’s our first ground-lease but we’re looking forward to,” Joey Clanton, one of the five Dream Big Foods partners, Friday told What Now Atlanta in a telephone interview.
The West Midtown Zaxby’s will be the company’s seventh location in the metro-Atlanta area. The restaurant should open March or April, 2018 depending on weather and construction, Clanton said.
Ground is expected to break mid-November.
“We’ve been trying to get on Northside Drive for years waiting for the right opportunity for land development,” Clanton said.
“I’m a graduate of Georgia Tech so being in the heart of the city has always been a fight of mine.”
Clanton and his team could open more Zaxby’s locations, “evaluating opportunities as they come along.”
Dream Big Foods wanted to put a location on Northside where Cook Out opened but the North Carolina-based chain beat them to the punch.
“There are plenty of people to feed in Atlanta. You just have to attract them with the right location.”
What a waste for one of the best views in Atlanta… Kroger great… The rest?!!! A storage facility there are 4 within blocks of there. Zaxbys does the city really want Duck Dynasty garbage on the streets over in our neighborhood. Bad enough they have that trashy location on Ponce in MIdtown. Chipolte (maybe something local could have been recruited. Oh well. (just think about the nice big clean Kroger ( hope they have gas).
