Thrift store with a cause finds a new home after 22 years.

After 22 years at its current location at 733 Monroe Drive in Midtown, Atlanta Step-Up Society is relocating.

Owner Robert Barber told What Now Atlanta this week that the store’s new home will be located in a warehouse behind Las Margaritas Latin Restaurant at 1840 Cheshire Bridge Road. The new location will allow for an improved building and more parking for customers.

Atlanta Step Up Society is a thrift store and non-profit corporation. Barber, a former homeless veteran, started the organization with the mission of helping veterans recover from drug and alcohol addictions, homelessness and domestic violence.

Proceeds from the store help to fund four emergency shelter homes for men in recovery.

According to the organization’s website, Barber has 15 years of experience in leading 12-Step program meetings and 10 years experience in providing individual and group counseling to people in recovery.

Barber says customers can expect a grand opening in September.
