After nearly 24 years at 1649 McLendon Ave NE, bridal shop Kelly’s Closet will be moving locations, according to an announcement made last month on the Kelly’s Closet Instagram page. However, the shop is not going far. It will still be in the same building complex, just moving a few doors down.

The switch comes amid a tenant shakeup at the shopping area near Chandler Park, with new tenants such as Little Tarts and a bookstore courtesy of writing organization Lost in the Letters jumping into the mix.

In her announcement of the relocation, Kelly Hobbs, the owner of Kelly’s Closet, fondly recalled her journey in the space over the last two decades.

“I can’t overstate the love I have for this building, with all of its quirks and history and charm,” the announcement states. “My journey with her began with a dream. In it, I was standing in the middle of my ‘store’ in the middle of this building, and I woke up with a certainty about the direction my life would take from that moment on.”

With the move, Hobbs plans to bring some new growth to the business as she transitions to a new space. In her announcement, she teased plans for rolling out a boutique in addition to her bridal shop.

“This is an extremely long-winded way of saying we aren’t going anywhere, just shifting down a few doors, and we literally cannot wait,” the announcement states. “Yay to change and transformation and new neighbors and old friends and neighbors. Just yay to all of it.”

While an exact timeline for the relocation is unknown, it appears that the move will take place this fall. Hobbs and her team plan to host a celebration in the new space in honor of the shop’s 24th anniversary in October.
