Gap is closing its Atlantic Station store, according to signage outside of the space, at 260 18th St NW Suite 10100. Employees at the Atlantic Station Gap confirmed the news in a telephone conversation Sunday with What Now Atlanta. The store will be open through the end of January 2021, they confirmed. Gap is holding a store closing sale with everything 30 to 50 percent off.

It’s not surprising that Gap is closing its Atlantic Station doors. Parent Company Gap Inc. — also owns Banana Republic, Old Navy, Athleta, and Hill City — in October announced it planned to close nearly 350 Gap and Banana Republic stores before the end of 2023 (30 percent of its total current North America stores.) Across the two brands, by the end of 2023, there will only be 870 stores left — a drop from the current 1,216.

“As a result of this work, our mall-based exposure will decline meaningfully,” Katrina O’Connell, chief financial officer for Gap Inc., said during October’s announcement. The move comes as nearly 80 percent of the company’s revenues are from e-commerce sales and from storefronts that are not situated in centers like Atlantic Station.

It’s unclear if additional Gap and Banana Republic stores in the Atlanta area are also on the chopping block, though highly likely given the total number of expected closures. Gap did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The company has eight metro Atlanta locations including the Atlantic Station outpost, according to Gap’s website.
