When Scott Buckland began to build Home Team Training and Consulting a couple years ago, his mission was simple: to give restaurants the training tools to succeed in the business.

A chef by trade, Buckland and his team build custom training content for businesses, including employee handbooks, role-specific job training, safety and sanitation, and service and hospitality standards. They assist with consulting in both back-of-house and front-of-house capacities, in addition to offering chef-focused resources such as assistance with menu development and equipment procurement.

“We want to bring to the independent restaurateur the systems that are usually reserved for the larger, multi-unit corporate places with big budgets,” Buckland told What Now Atlanta.

Home Team Training and Consulting offers both digital training programs and some in-person training options. Buckland aims to hone in on the onboarding and training aspect of hospitality, viewing it as a vital component of a restaurant business. The training systems at Home Team are intended to eliminate common pitfalls in the industry, including high employee turnover, and to drive up customer retention and profits.

Home Team’s digital training platforms offer AI-powered modules with lessons, quizzes, answer keys, certifications and management tools. The experience aims to build employees’ connection with the company and consistency across the board.

Buckland and his team also offer additional services such as a mystery diner experience, where a member from the Home Team Training and Consulting team will pose as a guest at a restaurant to offer feedback and insight on the customer experience, focusing on food quality, cleanliness and execution.

Moving forward, Buckland sees potential for expansion into more market verticals with their learning management system, including education, manufacturing and retail.
