The King and Prince Golf Club on St. Simons Island has plans to move forward with a course renovation in mid-2026, and real estate investment firm South Street Partners has selected Greenville-based golf design company Beau Welling to assist with the renovation process, according to a release. Changes to the course will include updates to the course design and practice areas intended to highlight the unique aspects of the course and setting.
“The King and Prince Golf Club sits on an incredibly unique piece of land, and there’s a real opportunity here to highlight that natural beauty in a more intentional way,” Beau Welling, founder and CEO of Beau Welling Design, said in the release. “Our approach is to stay true to the original character of the course, while introducing design elements that improve playability, strategy and visual interest. It’s about refining what’s already here and creating a more engaging experience for members.”
Beau Welling is known for planning courses like the PGA Frisco, as well as local spots like Atlanta Country Club in Marietta, Coosa Country Club in Rome and Ocean Forest Golf Club.
The golf club, located just north of The King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort, will also see a wider revamp, including a clubhouse renovation, in addition to the course design changes. South Street Partners is looking to transition to a fully private model for the location by mid-2026, as well.
Based in Charlotte and Charleston, South Street Partners, has become one of the largest owners of private residential club and resort communities in the country. Other notable investments they have include Kiawah Island, Palmetto Bluff, The Cliffs, Barnsley Resort, The Beckwith – Crested Butte, Naples Grande, PGA National Resort and Residences at Salamander.
“We identified The King and Prince for acquisition as both the resort and golf club complemented our existing portfolio of exceptional assets, including Kiawah Island Club and Palmetto Bluff, located in high-growth, Southeastern markets,” Chris Randolph, managing partner at South Street, said in the release. “We are really excited to bring our expertise in the development and operations of luxury residential and resort communities to The King and Prince Golf Club and introduce best-in-class experiences, premier golf offerings and thoughtful design to this iconic property.”
