A new grocery store is planned for a town in Barrow County.

Kroger is planning a location at 995 Loganville Highway in Bethlehem, according to construction documents. The store would be about 120,000 square feet.

Kroger began in 1883 when Barney Kroger opened a grocery store in downtown Cincinnati. According to the company, they were the first grocery retailer in the U.S. to test an electronic scanner, which they did in 1972.

Kroger has almost 2,800 stores in 35 states operating under under several different names, like Smith’sFry’s, and Dillons. The company has more than 160 stores in Georgia.

Construction bids for the new Bethlehem location will be accepted until Nov. 19, 2024.

This isn’t the only new store that Kroger is developing in the Peach State; as previously reported by What Now Atlanta, a location is also planned for Lawrenceville.
