Another Wawa is proposed for the Peach State.

The gas station is planned for 1725 Memorial Drive in Waycross, according to construction plans. It would include 16 fueling spaces and a 5,537-square-foot convenience store.

Wawa has more than 1,000 corporate-owned stores across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Florida and Washington, D.C.

The company began construction this year on its first Georgia locations, mostly in the southern and coastal areas of the state. Bainbridge, Hinesville, Brunswick, Pooler, Jesup and Valdosta are among the cities where Wawa has already broken ground or where they have set their sights.

The company has expressed plans to open three to four stores per year over the next five to eight years, for a total of 26 stores in southern and coastal Georgia.

Wawa is popular for its subs, breakfast sandwiches, baked goods and coffee beverages, along with standard convenience-store fare.

The company began in 1803 as an iron foundry in New Jersey. After owner George Wood took an interest in dairy farming, the family began a small processing plant in Wawa, Pennsylvania, in 1902. The first Wawa Food Market opened in 1964 as an outlet for dairy products.
