Downtown hotel to begin transforming public spaces/open FedEx in August.

The Westin Peachtree Plaza Thursday announced the last phase of its full renovation, scheduled to begin August 1, 2013.

In this phase, the entire lobby, meeting spaces and ballrooms will undergo a complete transformation, inspired by natural elements such as a vertical garden wall to improve indoor air quality, a modern color palette and dramatic sculptural lighting, a spokeswoman told What Now Atlanta in an email.

As part of the renovation, The Westin is introducing “Tangent” in the lobby. Tangent is a private lobby space for up to six people complete with tables, chairs, AV equipment and more, for “impromptu” meetings.

The hotel lobby will welcome improved retail space with the addition of FedEx Office, serving business travelers and meeting planners.

This renovation comes on the heels of the replacement of more than 6,000 windows and the central plant to improve heating and cooling efficiency, $45 million revamp of all guest rooms and suites and the total remodel of the revolving Sun Dial restaurant (slated to open in August), which can be reserved for private events.

The 73-story Atlanta hotel opened its doors to guests in 1976.
