Brine Seafood Shack has permanently closed in Avalon.
May 12 was the restaurant’s last day in Alpharetta, at 6165 1st Street.
Owner Marc Taft opened Brine in 2017.
He decided to close the restaurant as part of a chapter 7 bankruptcy filing “necessitated” by the December 2018 closure of its sister restaurant, Feed Fried Chicken and Such, at The Battery at SunTrust Park, according to a press release Monday.
“Planned developments at The Battery, including a movie theatre and music venue, were designed to drive organic traffic during non-game days but never came to fruition,” according to the release.
“As a result, following the closure of Feed, Taft had no choice but to close Brine as well, as both restaurants were owned by the same parent company, MTF Restaurant Group.”
“It’s with a heavy heart that I have made the decision to close Brine,” Taft said.
“I’m grateful for the support of the Avalon community and its management company, North American Properties. As we regroup and explore new avenues of growth, we’ll be applying more informed criteria based on what our employees and partners need to grow and prosper.”
Taft has made it a priority to find employment opportunities for the restaurant’s staff through his other projects.
“My business philosophy is built around my strong belief in growth,” Taft said.
“A big part of that is growing our people. I’m very proud of how many employees have gone on to play successful leadership roles in the food, beverage and hospitality industries.”
He is also launching two new concepts in Huntsville, Alabama.
No word on what will replace Brine Seafood Shack in Avalon.
