Cheba Hut, “a sub concept that has been curing munchies since its start in 1998”, will soon begin building an Austin location at 7101 E. William Cannon Drive.
Public records examined by What Now Austin state that the construction will consist of a “Tenant build out fast casual restaurant” spanning around 2400 SF. At an estimated cost of $350,000, construction is expected to reach completion by September.
“We opened our first location during covid, in June,” franchisee Vincent DeMaioribus told What Now Austin in 2023. “There were restrictions, you couldn’t have many people in the shop — it was tough, but now we’re onto the second one, in Leander.”
Describing his initial attraction to the growing sandwich brand, DeMaiorbus told What Now Austin that he came to it through his son, Joey DeMarioribus.
“He was managing a couple of Jersey Mike’s in Southern California and after coming back from school, he asked for help starting up a Jersey Mike’s restaurant. Turns out it’s really hard to get a Jersey Mike’s!” DeMaioribus says.
“After looking at several other concepts, he came upon Cheba Hut, which is a cannabis-based brand. And though at first I thought it was a gimmick, when we actually went and tried it, it turned out to be one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had.”
