Churchrow Tejas BBQ is coming in hot and smoky with its debut location in the Crestview neighborhood, set to open in late October.

The BBQ joint will live in the former home of Black Gold Craft Meats at 1521 W Anderson Ln.

Owner Simon Madera told What Now Austin that it will hold a grand opening on October 22nd. Community members will be introduced to the already widely talked about concept coming from the mind of the man behind Taco Flats and La Holly, Madera.

“It’s what we’re known for, good food, good drinks, and good hangout,” Madera said.

On the pit, Madera enlisted the help of friend and celebrated Texas chef, Miguel Vidal. Vidal was the premier chef running Valentina’s BBQ. After a two-year hiatus, Vidal is back to throwin’ down at the pit.

“He’s the person who coined, the creator in a big scale, of what Tex-Mex barbecue is,” Madera said.

“He’s incredibly talented and it’s a style of food that I know and I love and I respect cause I’m also Mexican.”

Tejano soul, as some would call it, is infused with Vidal’s dare to flair antics, a pair that’s sure to set any street ablaze with its mesquite-cooked BBQ. Churchrow Tejas BBQ actually sits on a street that’s already had its share of fire and soul. The location in the Crestview neighborhood was home to a row of churches, hence the name Churchrow Tejas BBQ. The spirit will move folks in a slightly different way once the eatery opens.

Bringing his delicious handmade BBQ tacos to the mix, Vidal is helping Madera set the tone for what’s sure to be a memorable place to not only chow down but hang out.

“It’s a really cool, fun, sexy brand,” Madera said.

Meat will be sold by the pound along with a host of fun sides, drinks, and of course, their highly raved about homemade tortillas.

“Come enjoy it!” Madera said.
