Dairy Queen is coming to Lago Vista. The worldwide franchise continues its growth with the help of the franchisee family, the Mayfields, who are set to open a new location at 7708 Lohman Ford Rd.

According to this recently filed permit, construction on the new Dairy Queen that is set to open in Lago Vista next Summer, is expected to start in January of 2026 and wrap up by June of next year. Robert Mayfield shared What Now Austin that that plan is actually to open in the Lago Vista location by May and open another location in Pfugerville sometime next year as well.

“Lago Vista is a nice little city. It’s gone from about 1500 people to about 8,000,” Mayfield said.

The Mayfield family has been running Dairy Queen locations in and around the Austin area since 1949. Once the two new locations open there will be 16 Mayfield Dairy Queen locations in the Greater Austin area.

“It’s a fun job if you do it right,” Mayfield said.

Dairy Queen began franchising in 1943, just three years after the first store opened in 1940. There are now more than 7,000 Dairy Queen locations worldwide with nearly 600 of those locations in Texas.

Now that the Mayfield family is embarking on opening a Dairy Queen in Lago Vista, the community will get to try out the brand for the first time on their turf.

The franchiseable menu and recoginzable look will appear at the new Dairy Queen coming to Lago Vista but it will have the unique feel of the a Mayfield DQ.

“Some fun and some good service, that’s one of our specialities. Mayfield DQ is not just a regular ‘ol DQ. We put a lot of effort into it, we have great hospitality, and unusually good ice cream because we take good care of the ice cream machines and don’t let too much air in,” Mayfield said.

“It’ll be the same good stuff. We have a relatively limited menu, but the reason we do that is so that we can make sure we have good quality food.”

In addition, Mayfield plans to hire folks looking for jobs in the area.

“It’ll be a good spot, if you’re looking for a job,” he said.

The good times will roll at the new Dairy Queen in Lago vista once it opens its doors 7708 Lohman Ford Rd. in May 2026.
