City Lights, the classic Georgetown movie theater owned by Schulman Theatres is planning to install new facilities that will dramatically improve its food & beverage capabilities, according to recent public records. The theatre is located at 420 Wolf Ranch Parkway, near 2020 Market Scratch Kitchen + Bar.
Schulman Theatres currently runs two brands: City Lights, a more minimal and classic cinema model, and Film Alley, a more ambitious model which defines itself as “a family-friendly movie entertainment center owned by Schulman Theatres. Our locations feature movies, bowling, arcade and a scratch kitchen where we prepare delicious food for the whole family!”
Considering the public records state that the project “Film Alley”, it seems reasonable to believe that Schulman Theatres will simply be upgrading the Georgetown location to its more advanced model. The project description listed: “Select demolition of existing interior spaces and construction of kitchen, bar, lobby, and mini bowling spaces of an existing cinema building. Proposed work will not disturb existing main paths of egress.”
What Now Austin briefly contacted Morris Schulman, owner of Schulman Theatres, to inquire about these changes, potential offerings and opening dates, but he declined request to comment.
What can be known, however, is that the theater will likely offer a solid selection of pizza, burgers, sandwiches, salads, and deserts, as featured at their other location across Texas. In addition, the facilities should be up and running in summer 2023, if estimates listed on the public records hold true.
