Local Joe’s Kitchen, a new eatery focused on southern US cuisine, will soon be making its debut in San Marcos, according to recent public records. The restaurant will be located at 205 Hopkins St, replacing a former Schlotzky’s Deli.
“It’ll be the first local Joe’s in Texas,” owner Joe Perricone proudly states. “I’m originally from Texas, born in Austin, so with my four adult children all out doing their own thing it’s a great opportunity to come back and lay down my roots again.”
“I had hoped to retire in the area after being in Nashville for 30 years, and I have six grandchildren in Texas,” Perricone adds. “The plan is to open it, build it up, and ease out.”
When asked why he specifically chose San Marcos in the central Texas area, Perricone provides a thorough response.
“San Marcos is geographically well situated—close to Austin, close to San Antonio, close to New Braunfels, a favorite spot of mine. And given its in-town location, so close to the university, we’ll be in proximity to a broad hiring pool and plenty of customers.”
When describing the menu, Perricone offers a dizzying overview of southern cuisine.
“We’ll be serving up fried chicken, pot roast, country fried steak. On the side, some squash casserole, Mac and cheese, sweet yeast rolls, and a wide variety of desserts, like homemade banana pudding, red velvet cake, and buttermilk pie. And pecan pie. Everyone loves pecan pie.”
Featuring a “big patio” and even drive-thru service, the restaurant is more than equipped to make a splash in the growing college town. Perricone says the opening is planned for spring, April at the latest.
