“The group would convert a bungalow on East 11th and Wheeless streets into the bar, with a food truck outside that could be Black Gold or a taco truck.”

According to a recent report in ABJ, as local BBQ chef Mems Davila opens his newest project, a new one is already cooking up.

Black Gold, founded by the South Texas native chef and pitmaster Mems Davila and partners Richard Rocha and Eloy Alderete, “which has leather seats tucked into white quartz tables”, is set to open on November 9. And already, Davila is planning a second concept.

“As Black Gold nears opening, Davila is already toying with a second concept in East Austin, envisioning a Mexican-inspired craft cocktail bar, he said,” the ABJ reports.

“The group would convert a bungalow on East 11th and Wheeless streets into the bar, with a food truck outside that could be Black Gold or a taco truck.”

“We were always kind of with the notion that, hey, we’re bringing sand to the beach,” Davila said about competing in Austin’s barbecue scene. “But we felt that with our drive we could prevail, and with continuing hard work that we would kind of, of course, get to a place where we’re really happy with our product.”
