According to recent reporting MySA, Portillo’s Hot Dogs is planning to build up a new outpost in Kylen.

“The $250 million project in Kyle has now been approved from the Kyle City Council and the Hays County Commissioners Court on Tuesday, December 19,” the article reports. Additionally, the Vype Park project — located on the east side of I-35 and Bebee Road, which will have over 600,000 square feet of retail — was given $41 million in incentives, disclosing that the city has been working for two years with NewQuest and Transwestern.

The Journal goes on to list Portillo’s as one of “a few stores that NewQuest ‘loves’ to bring to their development projects,” alongside concepts such as Chili’s, Parry’s Pizzeria & Taphouse, and Outback Steakhouse.

For readers who are unfamiliar with Portillo’s, the eatery’s website offers a brief history: “In 1963, Dick Portillo invested $1,100 into a small trailer to open the first Portillo’s hot dog stand in Villa Park, IL, which he called ‘The Dog House.’ Years later, Portillo’s has become a brand synonymous with Chicago.”

“We’re known for our famous Chicago-style hot dogs, Italian beef sandwiches, chopped salad, cheese fries, homemade chocolate cake, and chocolate cake shake,” the statement continues.

What Now Austin reached out to Marc Miller, the Vice President of Operations at Portillo’s Hot Dogs, but he could not provide additional information before publication.

An opening date for Portillo’s in Kyle has not been announced yet. Stay tuned for updates.
