According to recent reporting, a new brewery is opening in Spicewood, a growing area west of Austin.
Highway 71 Brewing Co. will soon serve the Spicewood community as “a hangout spot, with a mezzanine overlooking pickleball courts, simulated golf, live music, beer brewed onsite and, for those who don’t imbibe, craft cocktails,” according to The Business Journal.
The report adds that the indoor venue will be run by two married couples — Kevin and Staci Caputo, and Shannon and Les Butler — are founders and owners of the project.
“We wanted our place to be a venue where people who love a good beer can go (as well as) people who don’t drink but want to partake in some of our activities,” Kevin Caputo said to the publication. “We wanted a place that sort of speaks to the community.”
Caputo added that there has been notable demand for his group’s project in Spicewood; while the area has some restaurants and places to listen to music, there aren’t many entertainment options, he said.
“We understand the market for (breweries) is weak. As a matter of fact our equipment came from a failed brewery,” Caputo said. “We wanted something unique. We felt it was a need for the community — it’s the right place at the right time… and we wanted to make it more than just a brewery.”
Reportedly, the business will offer a membership option that will include a member lounge and access to play pickleball outside of normal hours.
