The biggest hurdle for any development project is meeting zoning regulations. It’s rare for development projects to receive unanimous approval on the first attempt. A recent affordable housing project, which promises to bring 12 new condominiums to Dorchester’s Bailey Street, recently went through the same.
Highlights
- Dorchester is prepping to welcome a new building unit at Bailey Street, which will offer residents 12 condominiums.
- The latest development in the Boston neighborhood will replace a three-decker family home.
- The Zoning Board of Appeal gave a green light to the newest affordable housing project in Dorchester.
The Zoning Board of Appeal Approves Plans for 12 Condominiums
The real estate space of Boston’s Dorchester neighborhood is heading towards a positive shift with a new development project. Developers plan to construct two new building units, which will collectively offer Dorchester’s residents 12 new condominiums. These two units will be replacing an existing three-decker family home at 77 Bailey Street.
When the developers reached out to the Zoning Board of Appeal for its approval, the board gave its nod, marking a step forward in local residential development, in Dorchester.
New Affordable Units and Six Parking Spaces Await Residents
Patrick Targete, the Bailey Street-based property owner, plans include two affordable units for Dorchester’s residents through the project. Additionally, six parking spaces will be constructed behind the two building units.
According to Shabnam Mashmasarmi, the property owner’s attorney, the Dorchester property is just a two-minute walk from the Ashmont T stop. With this, the newly built 12 condominiums would offer residents a transit-friendly living space.
A Unanimous Decision by Dorchester’s Authorities
The Boston neighborhood’s latest affordable development project received support from City Councilor Brian Worrell. No other member from the board or Dorchester city authorities spoke against the Bailey Street-based condominium project.
The proposal was shared with the authorities of the Boston neighborhood for approval regarding the amount of parking alongside the overall density and height of the two building units.
What Lies Ahead for the Latest Project and Dorchester?
The latest 12-condominium project based at Bailey Street is focused on bringing walkable neighborhoods and the affordable housing concept to Dorchester. If successful, more such initiatives could open for the residents of the Boston neighborhood.
The condominium project would also result in improvements to the existing community infrastructure at the Bailey Street property, propelling more inclusive housing options in Dorchester.
