89 Charles, a new cocktail lounge, will open Saturday, September 20, in Boston’s historic Beacon Hill neighborhood. The bar will feature craft cocktails, fine wines, and locally sourced spirits.

89 Charles to Blend in with Beacon Hill’s Historic Charm

89 Charles is a cozy, upscale cocktail bar tucked away on the street it’s named after. The design takes inspiration from the Gatsby era and is rooted in Art Deco style.

It features a 12-seat bar and a 30-seat lounge decorated with antique brass, deep blue tones, and vintage touches. Assembly Design Studio designed the space to blend Beacon Hill’s historic charm with a modern, glamorous touch.

The intimate space offers a warm, inviting setting for date nights, after-work drinks, or catching up with friends.

“Beacon Hill has always been a place where history meets charm, and we wanted to create a space that reflects that spirit,” said Gennaro Riccio, Owner of 89 Charles. “Our goal was to build an intimate bar, with a heavy emphasis on the art of cocktail making, that feels like it’s been a fabric of the neighborhood forever. With our unwavering focus on the development of the cocktail program and the overall lounge experience, we accomplished just that,” Riccio added.

The bar program at 89 Charles has been crafted by Bar Manager Dave Irwin. The menu highlights retro-inspired cocktails with a modern twist, along with a rotating selection of seasonal drinks.

The bar also offers a curated bottle list featuring rare vintage champagnes and premium wines, plus a small selection of beer and wine by the glass. Irwin, formerly of Zurito in Beacon Hill, brings his experience from Row 34 and Porto.

Chef Matt McPherson has created a small plates menu designed to complement the cocktail program.

Reservations and Opening Details

Reservations are available through Resy. Walk-ins are welcome at the bar, based on availability.

The bar will be open Tuesday through Saturday from 5 p.m. to 12 a.m. Additional updates can be found on the restaurant’s Instagram.
