A local pop-up blending Asian flavors with French finesse is baking up something big in Downtown Boston.
Fuful Bakery is preparing to open its first brick-and-mortar location at 274 Franklin St in the Financial District, according to a post within the Friends of Boston’s Hidden Restaurants Facebook group. The bakery’s Google Business page confirms this news.
While owner Janet (Jingwei) Ju could not be reached for comment, her story is thoughtfully chronicled on Fuful’s website. A Boston University graduate with a degree in nutrition, Ju began baking out of her tiny apartment kitchen.
Driven by a deep nostalgia for the Asian flavors of her childhood and “an endless curiosity for baking,” she poured herself into the craft—tweaking ingredients, adjusting techniques, and chasing the perfect texture and taste.
To sharpen her skills, Ju enrolled at the prestigious Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, where she mastered the art and precision of French baking. That blend of French technique and Asian flavors became the foundation for Fuful.
The bakery’s Instagram feed is a drool-worthy parade of flaky, imaginative treats, from sweet corn croissants and Dubai chocolate ‘cretzels’ to black sesame mochi danish rolls and pandan scones filled with pineapple cream cheese.
An opening date for Fuful has not yet been announced, but signage spotted outside the storefront says it’s “coming soon.” For now, you can catch Fuful at the SoWa Open Market on Sundays through August 17, 2025.
“At Fuful, every loaf, every pastry, and every bite has a story behind it — one that began in a small apartment kitchen with a big dream,” reads the bakery’s website.
