It looks like a Spanish-inspired tapas bar in Brookline is gearing up for an expansion.
Barcelona Wine Bar, currently located at 1700 Beacon St, plans to take over the neighboring space at 1704 Beacon St, according to a report from Brookline News. The space formerly housed Ivory Pearl seafood restaurant, which shuttered last March after nearly four years of service.
The wine bar recently filed for an alteration of premises, requesting approval to add roughly 2,700 square feet. The proposed expansion includes a new service kitchen, an additional dining room, and a second bar.
During a licensing hearing on Wednesday, attorney Elizabeth Pisano noted that the extra space would add six tables and help meet growing demand. “There’s a high demand for reservations, and turning away customers is never something they want to do,” she said.
Barcelona Wine Bar operates more than 20 locations across 11 states, with two additional Massachusetts outposts in Boston and Cambridge. Since opening its Brookline location in 2013, the restaurant has earned steady acclaim for its evolving, inclusive menu of Spanish-centric small plates and award-winning selection of wines from Spain and South America.
A timeline for the project has not yet been announced. What Now Boston has reached out to company representatives and will update this page as more details become available.
